Top 4 must-watch weekend sporting events

Cape Town - It's the weekend!

But the sporting world never sleeps, so hang on tight and be sure to watch these FOUR events (in no particular order)!

1. CURRIE CUP

The Currie Cup kicks off on Friday when the reigning champions Free State Cheetahs take on the Sharks (Kick-off is at 19:00).

Meanwhile, the Griquas and Blue Bulls will face off on Saturday (Kick-off is at 19:30) and the final first round match between the Pumas and the Golden Lions will kick-off at 14:30 on Sunday.

Who will provide the biggest upset of the season? And what new stars will emerge in 2017?

2. THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

It's the third major of the year!

All eyes will be on the biggest names in golf as they hit the links at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

Will Henrik Stenson defend his title, or will we see another maiden major champion lift up the Claret Jug?

How about a sneaky SA win ... Branden Grace?

3. TOUR DE FRANCE

We're in the final stretch of the Tour de France...

And things are heating up as to who will obtain the yellow jersey.

Defending champion Chris Froome will need to make some massive strides to get France's Romain Bardet and Colombia's Rigoberto Urán off his trail...

Also keep an eye out for our very own Louis Meintjes, who is second in the green jersey standings...

4. SUPER RUGBY EXTRAVAGANZA!

We're down to the final eight (well actually seven considering the Hurricanes have already advanced to the semi-final)!

But it's the Super Rugby quarter-finals and their are three mouthwatering fixtures to keep you entertained all Saturday.

We first travel to Christchurch, where the Crusaders will take on the Highlanders once again in their Kiwi derby (09:35 SA time). Then we're in Johannesburg for the South African derby, as the Lions host the Sharks (Kick-off is at 14:30) and then we end off in Cape Town, where the Stormers will battle against the Chiefs (Kick-off is at 17:00).

Who will reign supreme? Will we see any upsets? All these questions and more will be answered on Sport24...
