South Africa's new sporting president: He runs, he golfs

Cape Town - He jogs, he golfs ... is there anything newly elected South African President Cyril Ramaphosa can't do?

Ramaphosa, 65, was sworn in as South Africa's fifth democratic president on Thursday following the resignation of Jacob Zuma.

In between taking the oath and preparing to deliver Friday's State of the Nation address in Parliament, Ramaphosa was spotted not once, but twice, running early morning along the Sea Point Promenade in Cape Town.

Ramaphosa is also a keen golfer and is a member at the ultra-exclusive River Club Golf Course in Sandton.

Playing off a 19-handicap, Ramaphosa's most recent round was an impressive 89 on Friday, February 9.

In addition, Ramaphosa had the crowd assembled at the ANC’s 106th birthday celebrations in East London last month in raptures (see video below) following an impressive opening drive.

Ramaphosa follows in the "sporting" footsteps of another former South African president, Nelson Mandela, who was an avid boxer in his youth.
