CAS rejects Sagan Tour disqualification appeal

Lausanne - World champion Peter Sagan's appeal against his Tour de France disqualification was on Thursday rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

CAS said in a statement they were "rejecting an urgent request for provisional measures filed by the Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan" and his team.

The 27-year-old Sagan, winner of the third stage, was kicked off the Tour on Tuesday for having elbowed Mark Cavendish into the metal barriers during the sprint finish to the fourth stage.

Cavendish crashed hard and was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken shoulder blade, ending his own Tour participation.

Bora rider Sagan was immediately excluded from the race by the UCI Commissaires Panel for endangering other riders.
