Retired Hamilton subpoenaed

New York - Former American cyclist Tyler Hamilton, who was a team-mate of Lance Armstrong, has been subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury looking into the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Hamilton's lawyer Chris Manderson told the American media on Friday that Hamilton would co-operate with the grand jury.

Manderson did not say if it has anything to do Hamilton's previous relationship to Armstrong and the US Postal Service team.

Hamilton is among several former team-mates and staff members of Armstrong to have been contacted by investigators since Floyd Landis went public with allegations of doping among Armstrong's US Postal Service team.

Hamilton's career and reputation were repeatedly marred by doping scandals.

The first public evidence of his blood doping came in the 2004 Olympics, when he was accused of blood doping by Olympic officials. Later that year, he was accused again of doping, in the Vuelta a España, and subsequently served a two-year suspension from racing.

He returned to the sport in the 2007 season only to be suspended by his team after being implicated in the Operation Puerto drug scandal.

He returned a second time only to fail an out-of-competition check for performance enhancing drugs, and retire in April 2009.
