Saint-Flour - French police are investigating the Tour de France crash in which a car sideswiped a group of riders, sending two of them flying off the road, an official said Monday.

Jean-Pascal Violet, the public prosecutor for the town of Aurillac, said that police began interviewing witnesses and the driver of the car that swerved into Spanish rider Juan Antonio Flecha and Dutch racer Johnny Hoogerland during Sunday's ninth stage.
Violet said investigators are acting quickly to interview anyone involved in the crash including, if possible, the riders, before the Tour de France moves on and witnesses leave the area.
Team Sky rider Flecha was hit by a Tour television car trying to pass him on a narrow road, knocking him into Hoogerland and sending both flying.
Team Sky manager Dave Brailsford said Monday that "all options are open" as to how the team responds to the crash, but he added that the facts of the incident needed to be established.
"We're working to establish exactly what the facts of the situation are, to really understand what the car was doing there," Brailsford told a news conference on the Tour's first rest day.
"Having established the facts, we can then look at all the different options available to us. And we can then decide which ones we want to pursue."
