'They want to destroy Caster'

Cape Town - Athletics South Africa (ASA) president Leonard Chuene has blasted a report by the Daily Telegraph in Australia which claimed that Caster Semenya's gender test results showed that she has no womb or ovaries.

"This is a sinister agenda to destroy that little girl," Chuene told eNews.

He said he won't debate the rumours emanating from the report but will go as far as to defend the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Chuene said it's the newspaper that is responsible for latest claims that include Semenya possibly being stripped of her gold medal won in the 800m world championships held in Berlin last month.

Apart from being shocked, he said he is "really disgusted" with the report and pointed out that the IAAF have clearly stated that the conclusive test results will only be available in November.

The report said that Semenya will apparently be advised to undergo an operation as soon as possible, since her condition entails very serious dangers to her health. Also, Semenya has internal testicles which produce testosterone and she is believed to have three times the amount of testosterone in her body than that of other female athletes.

The Daily Telegraph quoted a well-informed source close to the IAAF, who said that their investigation shows proof that Semenya is a hermaphrodite.

"The IAAF's problem is that it has the entire ANC and the whole of South Africa on its case. Everything that is done, must be done exactly by the book, and it has to be beyond any suspicion," said the source.

Earlier on Thursday the secretary general of the IAAF, Pierre Weiss, told AFP that it's clear that she (Semenya) is a woman, but perhaps not 100 percent female which could possibly give her an advantage when competing.

Weiss said Semenya's case will be discussed at an executive board meeting from November 20-21, and that until then, the IAAF is not willing to disclose any information regarding the case.

Semenya will then also know if she still has a future as an international athlete.

"We still don't have all the results," said Weiss.

"The results which are at our disposal, must be submitted to experts for evaluation. Our dilemma is whether to use experts from outside the IAAF, or whether we should allow our own medical committee to do the evaluation, or whether it should be done by both."

According to Weiss, the IAAF could be prevented from disclosing the results of the tests performed on Semenya by the regulations of medical confidentiality.

Semenya will address the media on Saturday at a news conference at the University of Pretoria's High Performance Centre.

Weiss said this is the eighth gender investigation by the IAAF since 2005. Four of the athletes were asked to retire from athletics.

I pray that Caster be strengthened during this trying time of her life. This must be really difficult and frustrating for her. She definitely did not choose to be the way she is. For me this has been an eye opener. We need to be more sensitive to this issue. How many other people, young or old are born like this? They must be scared to death to see what is happening to Caster. As a society we need to start speaking to embrace people who are "different" from us. This is not just about the gold medal.... We are talking about someone's identity. Can you imagine the frustration. This might be a life battle for her. She has to start working on accepting herself and build self-esteem. Where can she possibly hide?? She cannot change who she is- even if she could--- the scars inside will need more than a politician, press release, some association to heal. I really pray that you be filled with the love of God and be strengthened from the inside out.

South Africans please support Caster as she was representing us and stop all the blame.I am am by her side 100%,Her parents know they bared a baby girl, so now she is a star and everybody wants to make a comment.SHINE CASTER SHINE!!We love you and behind you all the way
Andre9/14/2009 3:19 AM
The nice thing about an opinion is that you can change it and it does not cost you anything. Caster is a female with a high testerone level as everybody knows by now. She was born like that and there are many people in the world born like that. She is not a drug addict! She should be allowed to compete as she is a woman - would you disqualify a swimmer if he has monsterous feet - I don't think so. Everywhere people has some kind of advantage and that makes them better.
Anso Bradley9/13/2009 1:38 AM
Alexia - you poor thing, and i say thing because that is exactly what you are! You do realize everyone is laughing at you. You self centred, vain silly little thing. First off, if we knew, no, if she thought she was a man, do you seriously thing she would put herself through this, knowing that people are going to question her. You are vulgar and make me want to gag knowing that a real person (or maybe not) actually gave birth to you. You are in our prayers.

Shame, shame South Africa. My daughter and I watched Semenya`s final and I almost fel from my chair. I screamed, holy me why is a man running with the ladies? We laughed a lot and remember we are African women! We just said South Africa can`t win with women so they send a man?.We laughed and laughed.Oh South Africa you have yourself to blame. You knew it, We live in Europe and we did know something was wrong. Come on South Africa its a cheat. cheat, cheat. Of course she has an advantage,. God made her that way? tell that to the Kenyan lady who came second knowing that she lost to a man! Crazy to use the race card though I hope the IAAf sue ASA and burn it for many years. It is a disgrace to sport. It wasn`t fair play at all.She walks like a man, talks like a man and runs like a man. She`s just like my young brother in Africa!

we all know that there's a part of our population that is celebrating & to ya'll I say "GO TO HELL" u'll meet the aussie media there. Viva Caster, viva malema, viva chuene, viva mama winnie!
Louise9/11/2009 6:50 PM
This girl - no human being - should hear about their medical condition from a newspaper. Not Australian, nor South African. In the case of a death of a family member, the media is by law prohibited from publishing until the next of kin has been informed. In this case, the sensitivity of her condition, should have been treated exactly the same. I think she would need trauma counseling and all of us - including the media and politicians - to leave her and her family alone now so that she can in private, take charge of her own life and personal future decisions. This has been a very serious violation of her Human Rights of privacy and respect.
R@lulu9/11/2009 5:08 PM
I wish I could "beta!" you against you head!
BornAfrican9/11/2009 4:12 PM
Lulu : people like you are one of the main problems South Africa has. Not everything is about race. If you ever lived in any other part of the world, you'd realise that. It's people like you that prevent South Africa from moving forwards to prosper as a country. And please, if you are going to post a message in English, speak English - you're not sms'ing your mates. Facts are facts, if Caster exceeds certain testosterone levels, or whatever measures the IAAF has set out to distinguish males from females, then so be it. You need to have rules and boundaries in international sport or it would be a free for all and a shambles. A white girl would have been put through the exact same test - this is not a race issue. It is just a pity how it's been handled my the media and she has been portrayed in a negative light. But if she has always known about her situation and chose to hide it, then it's her own doing.
WORRIED9/11/2009 3:55 PM
I am an african and I think Caster's family aswell as herself new what is going to happen. People have choices and she new what will happen. If you look at her you can clearly see a men. Caster must take his lead as being a men. The ANC loves to say people are racist just like most white. Blame race for for eveything, because nobodu want to take respnsibility !!!!!!They must learn the MADELA way of life. Goodluck Caster :-) Being a MEN WOULD NOT BE SO BAD. TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GO FOR THE OPPERATION.
Kgomotso Jesaya Rangwanashe9/11/2009 3:36 PM
We people must face the truth.I am a black male. There is no problem for IAAF to investigation whether Caster is a girl or not.The IAAF also abide by the rules. If a referee raised a flag,it means that he saw something wrong. Now what's wrong with IAAF questioning Caster's gender? It means that they saw something wrong.Let us leave this battle between IAAF and politicians,at the end will see the winner.I am a South African,Caster is a South African, this politicians are also South Africans. The truth will prevail whether Caster is a girl or not.Let IAAF continue with its investigations.

I hope the honourable Julius Malema still pays Caster the R60 000 that he undertook to pay at the airport. In case anyone's wondering, the idiot still hasn't payed any of the athletes a cent yet (according to reports). I hope he doesn't use the gender issue as an excuse not to pay....perhaps he should use the race card here (himself being black) as a reason why no payment is forthcoming.....Malema you racist disgrace!!!
J9/11/2009 1:45 PM
Its so sad that we can take a male / female issue and turn it into a black / white issue. Our country will never be a united rainbow nation when the likes of Chuene, and Malema for that matter, are using the media to play their own little racist games....... If the results reveal that Caster is not 100% female then we need to accept this and the possibility of her losing the gold medal. The sad part of this whole debacle is that Caster's well being does not seem to have been taken into account - as a representative of this country, our sporting body for athletics has a duty to make sure she is getting the necessary counselling to get her through this.
Brownsuit9/11/2009 12:16 PM
Please don't assume that because the ANC is on the IAAFs back the rest of South Africa is too. While I admit this situation is disgusting, I think that most of the blame can be laid squarly on ASA and thier poor handling of this debacle from day one. ASA you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Mat Girl9/11/2009 11:54 AM
I am appalled as a white woman and human being at the way Caster has been used by everyone and that includes the nedia. It is time that humans started respecting other humans and in no area should more sensitivity be displayed than gender! Just as Gays have been persecuted through the ages now a young woman is being persecuted. All those who protest against what is being done to Caster Semenya should also think of how they would feel if their son or daughter was born gay or lesbian and yet in times gone by and still in some countries people who were born gender conflicted in some way were put to death. We are supposed to be more enlightened and if this issue is about anything it is about the fact that Caster did not choose to have a gender issue and has grown up feeling that she is a woman. We should respect that just as we should respect people who are gay or lesbian or bi or trans. None of these things are chosen they just are part of that human being. Caster can only be thankful that these extensive tests might reveal that she actually has undescended testicles which could actually predispose her towards cancer more than other woman. Let us help her and place the blame for all of this where it really lies and that is in the humans who have an obscene desire to read private titillating drama in the media and the media who provide us with these salacious tales. IAAF and ASA are the ones from whence this originates and they owe Caster a sincere apology for putting her through this ordeal as do the media. If she knew that this debacle was in the offing then she has exploited it for gain and I have less sympathy for her but she has probably been the target of many because of her athletic prowess and dedication because she looks different and maybe by going through with this she felt she might draw attention to others like herself who go through life being neither fish, flesh, nor good red herring and persecuted as if they wanted to be born different.
John the Saint9/11/2009 11:49 AM
Everybody is wining about poor old Caster, but what about all the other athletes that is 100% female and deserve the medal?

Firstly, I am white and I am British but my five years working in SA for schools was among my happiest. I hope I did something useful and whenever I returned to the UK I often challenged the SA ex patriates about their condemnation of the way SA was going. Racist and ignorant comments generally from whites, who went on about how they missed the weather but hated the ANC. But now? Malema and Cheune make stupid remarks about a woman who has worked hard to be the best in her field. Why do they play the racist card? Because they will try and profit from anything and to be frank, because they are stupid. Semenya needed to sort her own life. All the stupid lines from politicians and people on this site make me cry with frustration. SA has a great future if the people get a chance to be a part of it. ANC. Scrap the luxury limos and scrap Malema.
Mark Becks9/11/2009 10:29 AM
I have read the comments here and it’s quite scary, racism is very much alive and kicking in South Africa, which is very sad. It’s time for us to grow up and stop using words and phrases such as "previously and historically disadvantaged" and pulling the race card. The ANC should be working towards reconciliation. If a comment is made on national television, blaming the whites for what has happened regarding Semenya; do you not think you are going to get a response? Firstly I have to point out that our under 13 football squad that travelled overseas 4 years ago were over age, but it didn’t matter because we just wanted to win. Our under 21 football squad had over age players, and the worst part of this is that SAFA had to be aware of it. Now the ASA has let Semenya go to represent South Africa, knowing full well that her gender will be in question, as it has already been in South Africa. If the International governing bodies want to check her gender because she is competing in that arena, it’s their right, and they are fully entitled to it. Whatever the outcome, it is not as significant as the damage that has been done by our very own people allowing her to go without discretely testing her prior to her stepping into the international arena. The damage that has been done to this person already cannot be undone, and whatever the result is, she has feelings and is a person who should be respected, and not used as a political pawn at this stage. We have to wait for the results whatever they are, but in this case, that will prove conclusively her agenda. The world governing bodies are there to monitor anyone competing in the world arena, and if you happen to come in the top 3, you will be tested for drugs and steroids etc. Even in formula 1, the first 3 cars in every race will be scrutineered to check they meet the International requirements. The aim of governing bodies is to stamp out cheating and drugs and level the playing fields. Now our elected governing bodies in this country are supposed to be doing the same thing here BEFORE anyone represent our country. Can you not see what is happening to our nation? Other countries are making it harder and harder for South Africans to enter, and that has to be a huge big red flashing neon sign to say we have become a nation of liars, cheaters and criminals. There is a saying that a rotten fish stinks from the head, enough said.
mykeyb9/11/2009 10:24 AM
@ LUU I am a saffer and for you to say that the minority are all racist as u put it YOU ARE TOTALY WRONG. Who's the racist now?????? its that kind of ANC brainwashing its own people into believing that every thing they say and do is true, let the IAAF results speak for themselve's. Was ANC not anymore they are full of empty promises
Alibaba9/11/2009 10:10 AM
A lot of you it seems used to live in Australia and returned to SA. That is the only conclusion I can make given your strong opinions of Aus. News 24 did not want to publish my earlier post, so let's try again: Somebody needs to help Caster; somebody that has nothing to do with the SA government or ASA who only want to score cheap political points out of this. This girl is going through emotional hell - she might act irrationally at the moment!!! Is somebody (some welfare organisation or church) looking after her? Question: And will the rest of you feel safe when entrusting your children to the powers that be in SA for education or heaven forbid if they excel at anything?
Ian9/11/2009 10:08 AM
Chuene you complete incompetent f**l. Thank you for ruining this young girl's life all in the name of medal chasing, and branded all of us South Africans as cheaters. If you and your incompetent lot had done their jobs Caster would not be in this untenable position. ASA has been a complete disaster under your stewardship, and performance from our athletes has significantly deteriorated. Please don't quit now as we would have to pay you a severance, fire the incompetent fool.
female~factor9/11/2009 10:07 AM
Genesis 1:26-28 and now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us........God created human beings, making them to be like himself..... He created them MALE AND FEMALE, blessed them...What I know is that God has great plans for this young lady and this is the beginning no one can shake or destroy her, it is her God given talent she is using....Caster my love I like the CONFIDENCE you have keep it up you know God and his angels are behind you, have nothing to worry about. To all of you who are also falling for this barbaric gender test joke thing I don't blame you, not at all, it is not everyone who believes in God and His Mighty blessings, eish I can't wait for this gender test nonsense circus to finish zzzzzz
ANGRY AT ATHLETICS SOUTH AFRICA9/11/2009 9:50 AM
There goes Leonarde Chuene with his deception, he wanted a gold so badly and did not think twice what his greed would of caused, today Semenya is like a joke to the world.....WHERE IS JULIUS MALEMA I AM WAITING TO READ OR EVEN HEAR HIS COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I see the blame game has started

This "finding" could be the beginning of a new career for Caster! How about "Mixed doubles" at Wimbeldon?
dostie de man9/11/2009 9:48 AM
This is really outrageous, no one is to blame here..If you take the gold medal away from her, go to her home and strip her every medal she won as a woman, and end the whole dilemma by advicing her where and with whom to compete with cause here in SA we have a bunch of lazy men and women. Damn people watta gwan in this world, we heading the end...Jah live!
Tash9/11/2009 9:46 AM
To all the racist babies out there: Here's news, you are more aware and concerned about being black than what white people are. Trust me on this one. If this unfortunate individual was white, she would have had to go through all the same trauma. If you go read history (which so little of us do) the athletes tested in the past were whites too. So move on and the apartheid cries are getting old too. Get on with what you've wanted in the first place - running the country. Stop being concerned about the white people, they are so few anyway and all they do is just get on with their lives. There are only two unfortunate points about this: 1. Having your personal life splashed all over the news like that - is heartbreaking for anyone, no matter who they are. 2. If ASA knew about this in advance and sent this poor girl to Berlin anyway it would really be a disgrace. And instead of passing blame there should be accountability. But thats just me.
Rob9/11/2009 9:42 AM
The IAAF is racist is a joke. The runner who came in second was a black from Kenya. If Caster had to loose her meddle it would still go to a black athlete, so what's the issue. The world doesn't buy ASA incompetence with Racism.

Adriaan9/11/2009 9:27 AM
'She' got balls and no ovaries or uterus. 'She' cannot get pregnant, but can likely make a women pregnant. That makes 'her' more a man than a women.Yes, God made the poor 'girl' like that, but that does not make it fair for 'her' to compete with women.
Pietie9/11/2009 9:19 AM
To Bongs @ 8:02 - I feel very sorry for Caster and also for racists like yourself. You are so quick to make rasist comments that you confuse Canada with Australia....what a stupid d@#**ead you are!
PH9/11/2009 9:18 AM
What a circus!! What has just been revealed by the IAAF about Semenya's condition has been an known "fact" in athletic circles for the past two years. My daughter has been competing at the highest levels in the middle distance events since 2002. When the first rumblings were felt and questions were asked, the female athletes were told that they were just racist and jealous. Chuene and his cronies have caused this debacle, but there is no hope that any of them will ever be held accountable. Athletics is nothing like it was 10 years ago, they have systematically destroyed it with bias, mismanagement and nepotism. Tomorrow my daughter will have to compete at the SA Champs against this "girl"!! ONLY IN SOUTH AFRICA IS DOWNRIGHT DISHONESTY AND CHEATING REWARDED.
Coen9/11/2009 9:18 AM
Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. 2500 years ago Hippocrates said this. How can all this be in the public domain before Caster has been counselled? the handling of this case was unprofessional. The only victim is Caster Semenya
charles9/11/2009 8:52 AM
No Chuene, Semenya has allready been destroyed due to your incompetance and that of ASA in handling this matter,How the hell did you qualify for this job,get professionals, you do not know whats going on arround you.it does not help to shout and scream now, resign and go f--k up somewhere els.
Nosisa9/11/2009 8:52 AM
We can not blame anyone if we need somebody to blame is God. Its not caster's fault she did know either, she really deserve her golden medal.
Steve9/11/2009 8:49 AM
@ Luu - "Most people in Australia are racists?????" I'm an Aussie living in South Africa. How dare you insult my people with such an ignorant statement. I bet you've never even been down under. Otherwise you'd know Aussies are more tolerant of race than most South Africans!!!!! Everything over here is twisted into a racial matter. Grow up!!!
Lindi9/11/2009 8:46 AM
CAN CASTER TAKE OFF HER CLOTHES AND POSE NUDE IN THE FRONT PAGE OF ALL NEWS PAPERS I THINK THAT CAN BE PROOF ENOUGH. WE DONT NEED TESTS TO PROVE ONE'S GENDER, I THINK GENITALS SAY IT ALL!!!! CAN THEY PLEASE LEAVE CASTER ALONE, SHE HAS GONE THOROUGH ENOUGH NOW ITS TIME FOR HER TO ENJOY HER LIFE AS A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE.....
lerato9/11/2009 8:44 AM
the poor girl has been feeling like a man all her life, now it is guaranteed and then we get emotional about it. she should be relieved after being registered as a girl while she dressed, talked,, behaved like a boy. Maybe parents who have gay kids can relate to this.
Anon9/11/2009 8:44 AM
....little "gir"l??? W T F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Patricia9/11/2009 8:43 AM
The shocking thing about all this is that she is still all female, whether she has more testosterone or oestrogen. She cannot help for her birth.......God chose for her to be this way and who are we to question him or judge her. She is female in every way that counts. I am becoming less and less proud to be called a South African. Everything is always turned into either a political or racial issue!........And these are the people who are claimed to be competent, professional and educated enough to run our country????
mac9/11/2009 8:34 AM
TSK TSK Sipho..It was not the IAAF who handled this wrong. It was the ASA. And our very dear friend Julius. The IAAF handled it professionally to the book. The ASA made a big fuss and blamed everything on racism. Its the new rage these days. In this country you can vote, drive and drink like an adult when ur 18. Stop treating Caster like a little "girl" and treat her like an adult. If it is what it is, she should accept that she is different, and too strong to compete against woman. And keep the damn politicians away from our athletes, they corrupt their minds!!!
Lerato9/11/2009 8:31 AM
if the results can finally reveal that Caster is Hemaphrodite.this will be very good and acceptable as she will have a chance also to compete with both females and males.this means that she deserves the medal and deserve also to compete with both genders.is there any birth certificate that indicate that a person is both female and male.what is the importance of birth certificate then.Home Affairs please intervene, there was no need for the test.SA why are you not doing your own test on this lady, something is wrong with you south africans.
Louis9/11/2009 8:29 AM
This rumours could not have come from a better place than Australia. We all know that Australia is a racist country, no wonder the racists from our own country who has the means migrate to Down under. IAAF promised that the test results will be made know to Caster first, and now we hear this nonsense from Australian media. What really are they trying to do here?
Mr Drew9/11/2009 8:29 AM
Hold on here, this is now very interesting. I remember another sporting case involving a man from one of the Scandanavian countries that had way more than the normal amount of testosterone found in men, he was allowed to compete because it was a natural advantage. Everybody should just shut up now, leave the poor girl alone. How would you like your daughter to be subjected to all this nonsense. She didn't know she had internal testicals. Chuene should be fired, he has completely ruined a young person.
jp9/11/2009 8:27 AM
WELL DONE ASA. YOU HAVE JUST SPOILT CASTER SEMEN YA's LIFE. WHEN WILL SPORTS ADMINISTRATORS GET IT RIGHT. SAFA, ASA ETC.
disgusted 9/11/2009 8:16 AM
No Chuene they do not "want to destroy Semenya" because it now seems likely that ASA have already done so with their complete incompetence. Even you own coaches walk out on you. By trying to talk ASA out of trouble you are just making matters much much worse for the athlete that ASA is supposed to protect. What is needed is for all our people (black and white) to demand action against ASA if it proven that the latest news reports are correct. Come on Mr Malema show us the way
Mel9/11/2009 8:15 AM
They all keep telling us to stop with racism YET keep turning everything and anything into a racist issue. Get over it - most of the racists are long gone, let the new generation forgive, forget and move on. This is merely a GENDER issue!

If Caster is allowed to compete then surely it goes from a supposendly racist issue to a sexist one. If men can compete in womans events then we should do away with mens and womans events which effectively throws all woman out of sport. I assure you the woman who came second trained just as hard but had no chance against a man. Lets take that little girls feelings into account as well! This is not about "poor little girl" its about whats right. If she was so little - why let her compete? She seemed to handle the win like an adult - let her handle the loss like one. Cant only take the good from standing in the spotlight - it gets hot under there. Its not like she didnt know what she was! This whole thing is insane! Call a spade a spade and a man a man! PC gone mad when its insulting to call it what it is!

When the bible says God made a man and a woman in his image, where does this put the hermaphrodites, especially those with XXXY chromosomes (genetic makeup)? Is it fair to call someone male-pseudo or female-pseudo as if they are genderless. I think there must be a differentiating factor that makes someone quintessentially male or female irrespective of a genetic anomaly. Hermaphrodites have one gender that is closely represented in them, maybe it is time for the world to stop this gender stereotype and treat with respect those people perceived to have some “gender ambiguity” even if it means creating another sporting code for them as it is already done with paralympics.

Australia,Australia....Please give us a break. Most people there are Racists and it,s no wonfer why the minority immagrate to that country.....
Sipho9/11/2009 8:10 AM
This is so unfair! How could people be this cruel??? How could IAAF handle this issue like this?? Can you just imagine if it was your 18 year old daughter / sister? yes, we want fairness but is this the way to handle things??? I am so disgusted by people and politicians who are making caster their pawn to air their political and racial view. this is NOT about race nor politics. We are talking about a humanbeing with mind, body and soul like the rest of us.... How could people be this heartless???
Clinton9/11/2009 8:10 AM
They want to destroy Caster? Nope Chuene you did a perfect job in destroying her yourself, but don't worry bout it to much, you can always just shift the blame on us white folk.
GERT9/11/2009 8:10 AM
Why don't they test all female athletes that are performing well or break records, e.g in pole vaulting Yelena Isinbayeva has been improving the WR from 4.82m in 2003 to 5.06 m on August 30, 2009 - a remarkable improvement. What about th Venus sisters, and some of those other athletes with the physique of men, that are competing and not winning, but are collecting appearance money all the time. Please can we keep this saga civil and devoid of politics. Caster is a human being, let us all treat her that way and keep our derogative remarks about other people to ourselves. She did South Africa proud and political parties and whoever must not claim her as if she is just another object to further their own political agendas.
Maggie9/11/2009 8:10 AM
If the test shows that Caster is half girl and half Boy i dont see any problem.then they will have to consider the birth certificate.this means that she is not suppose to compete with boys also because she is neither girl or boy, and what does this means as she never lied about her gender.SA is failing to help this young lady. why cant the test be done in SA,how sure are you that the results produced are true.

Dave9/11/2009 8:08 AM
This is a sad story indeed. But it also seems that there is no clear guidline which physical criteria disqualify an athlete from competing as a female. This is such a high profile case that it will set precedents for the future that may put dozens of athletes at risk of being tested and humiliated. And if a woman is disqualified as a female athlete may she compete as a male? And how does she then fit in in the dressing room? I cannot imagine a society that would prevent such a person competing somewhere.

totally out of control, this whole situation. an 82 year old women gets murdered for a bicycle worth less than R100 in P.E. thats "Destroyed". was reported 3 days later by the Herald, never made it to news24. this is just a political freak show, we have much more serious issues that threaten our everyday existence.

See Chuene in Sowetan today9/11/2009 8:04 AM
ATHLETICS officials and family members have reacted with anger at recent reports suggesting that middle distance sensation Caster Semenya is a hermaphrodite – a person with both female and male sexual characteristics. The Sydney, Australia-based Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that the IAAF was expected to disqualify Semenya from future events after gender tests revealed that she had male and female sexual organs. The newspaper said the results of tests would reveal that she has internal testes. The paper also reported that Semenya would be stripped of her 800m world championship and medal. Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene said last night: “ I’m not shocked by reports that Caster is a hermaphrodite because I knew from the onset that such allegations would be levelled at this youngster. “The IAAF has distanced itself from such claims and will only issue an official statement in Monaco in November. I have been communicating with the IAAF about the Caster debacle and they told me not to take what will be said about this youngster seriously until they issue an official statement in this regard. “So, we are unfazed about what has been written and said about Caster. These allegations were not started by the international media. We all know that these allegations started here at home. I can assure you that Caster is a woman as far as we are concerned.” Wilfred Daniels, the high performance co-ordinator responsible for ASA’s national team who resigned after expressing his disgust with the manner in which the national body handled the Semenya issue, refused to comment until after the IAAF issued an official statement on November 20. IAAF spokesperson Nick Davies said the results would only be made public once experts had studied them and Semenya herself had been contacted. Davies said: “We have the final results from the specialist tests carried out in Germany. “These now need to be interpreted by a panel of experts drawn from the IAAF Medical Commission and some outside specialists as well. “It is likely that we will be in a position to then discuss the results, in private, with Semenya, and decide on a course of action and any public announcement. “Nothing will therefore be announced or confirmed until we are in a position to have the expert evaluation of the results, and discuss them with the athlete. We cannot give an exact timing but probably within the next couple of weeks.” Semenya will be trying to put what has been written about her behind her when she competes in a 4km race at the SA cross-country championships in Pretoria tomorrow

Awa9/11/2009 7:58 AM
ASA - or rather ANCSA- once again making comments about speculation/rumours. Newspapers often also make mistakes. If she/it is of cross gender and Caster has too many male hormones, then obviously Caster has an unfair advantage and Caster doesn't deserve a gold medal, whatever ever ANC and Mal ema screams and shouts.
Chris9/11/2009 7:57 AM
I thought a freak show was a thing of the past! Man its great to be South African!
TL9/11/2009 7:57 AM
One has to ask where did the Australian / UK media obtain their information when IAAF has said that they will onluy reveal the info to Caster? Its time Caster came out and said what is really going on? Was she informed about the results? if Not then she has a right to take the IAAF to the UN human rights court.
Shocked9/11/2009 7:57 AM
Yes, ASA really messed up this one but I think its disgusting the way the Aus press have leaked this story! They have no respect for Casper, who, due to the nature of her background would not have been able to undergo the tests at a younger age. Before any story should have been published, she should at least be able to understand the problema and seak medical advice! She has been brought up as a girl and to suddenly have to deal with this must be overwhelming, well done on handling it so well so far! Shame on you, ASA, the source that leaked the story (you have destroyed a young person's life for a quick buck) and the Aus press! Please can some lawyer step in and offer some help and guidence to this yound lady who has been battered from all sides and help keep ASA political claws out of her!!!
Christo9/11/2009 7:55 AM
Okay, hold on. Some of these comments are really on the verge of being racially vulgar! 1st of all, this is about Caster. She is the one being victimised and exploited. ASA should have and could have acted more appropriately and so the ANC. It was never about race, but rather about an athlete, who happened to be black and from South Africa. A Country with a deep and very sensitive racial past! She, along with so many other athletes in the past, have been scrutinised about her gender. Lets focus our attention on her and the real medical report before we as South Africa start voicing racial slurs towards each other! We all know that Leonard Chuene along with the ANC have all but supported Caster. But this is not about them nor racism. Caster is the one going through hell. her future is in the balance. We should all stand together and support her. To praise the devil for his doings, only makes him feel more powerfull! I urge the ANC and ASA, to forget about their political views and support Caster and her family. I request ASA, ANC and the whole SA to respect the medical report. We all have a long way to go to be truely united! For now, lets stand united for Caster and support her! Go Caster, may you live your dream and be a true Heroin!
Bela9/11/2009 7:55 AM
The only people to blame in this entire saga are the ASA and the ANC! They were the ones who turned this in to a complete circus and now some poor girl who has obviously worked hard has been left to suffer. I fully understand and support the need for the medical tests to be conducted. Once those have been done, the situation becomes a clinical one and then ASA and the ANC can try and work out a way to incorporate race in to that! The IAAF (according to their website) have already said that they would not withdraw her medal. Caster, once this is all over, you have every right to sue the chair of ASA for their complete incompetence mismanagement of this entire situation. If they had just kept their uneducated, stupid mouths shut, the IAAF would have conducted the tests in silence and ONLY she would know the results. Now this poor girl has to face one major life changing experience under public scrutiny and that ASA, is a violation of human rights all on it's own, and ASA have ONLY themselves to blame!
Gustav9/11/2009 7:55 AM
Now we don't have to wait for November to come. Why did ASA allow her to go over to compete?
cj9/11/2009 7:54 AM
This whole situation is disgusting. Someone at ASA needs to be held accountable, the test should have been done in private before the poor child hit the international arena, can you imagine the pain and confusion. The IAAF are equally to blame, as are the politician of our country for not trying to protect the child. Everyone should stop trying to cash in on the situation and stop and think of the damage to Semenya
HC9/11/2009 7:54 AM
Buckpassing, Mr Chuene? Problem is that whatever the test results are, you will keep on referring to "the little girl" and pull the racist card. Typically you and your comrades; if you can't provide logical answers, you cry racism.
Jacob9/11/2009 7:53 AM
You see now we are all going to be embarrassed. That thing is an IT and all the other countries are going to ask questions about the number of ITs in South Africa. Let us rather put her on a boat and float her off to Mozambique
Slinky9/11/2009 7:53 AM
Leave the girl alone, blame those around her who have taken advantage of her condition. Her coach, the South African Athletics association and the ANC. As soon as the ANC start to protest and spout ''rhetoric'' about white racist conspiracy theories you know they are lying.Chuene is in denial....does he have the balls to stand up and say we are sorry and we need to address the issue!
Sipho9/11/2009 7:52 AM
Truly our country still have a long way to go, Human dignity is not respected here. For some read to call Semenya a Cheat is too much, not only that they definitely do not Believe in God. If they do I just wander how. We in the Black Conscious Movement we are not surprised by these remarks, She cannot be a Women and Black and achieve without being question. Semenya has achieve what many have still to achieve her sin was to be Born in a country where successes are least celebrated. To me She’ll remain the Champion and that cannot be changed by some Doctors suggestions that She is not a 100% Women. In Science there is no such a thing as 100% Gender, but we are all Humans. Call her cheat and all other names pray that you are what you think you are the perfect human. Calling others name is more a sign of internal unhappiness and lack of belief in God, we are all created and we did not choose remember that always.
George English9/11/2009 7:52 AM
So much for the ethic's, integrity of ASA and the Leader of ANC youth League... when they are wrong, and they are humiliated by their own poor judgement - they shout racism.. they are the recists... Sport and Politic's do not mix...
TheOne9/11/2009 7:52 AM
Ok, so the truth came out! Trans-gender people should not be looked on as if they are abnormal. In our society, it is not the "norm" but it is normal to be 50%/50%. Nevertheless, she is not female or male. AND THE ANC and all their little racists like Julius and Winnie should now get the facts before making racist comments, as always.
jacjac9/11/2009 7:52 AM
IF she is not allowed to run in these races.. will she then take part inthe paraOlympics ? after all they will have to classify her with a disability
R9/11/2009 7:51 AM
I'm shocked at how little support Caster has in this country. We slate Chuene for racism ( and he might be one) but none of us are any different - we are so inadequate that we will execute Caster before we know the truth.... we are shameful and devoid of honour as South African's. If she is different then it is by no means her or the ASA's fault. This issue could have been handled better-the IAAF should have controlled their mouths- now rumour has condemmed Caster. This is pathetic- white or black, male or female - she is innocent. Try remembering that.
The Man9/11/2009 7:50 AM
This whole business has more to it than what meets the eye. The best thing is to comment after official results come out.
AN9/11/2009 7:50 AM
Did it really have to come this far?........Why disrespect the woman who placed our country on a map by doing her best to win Gold? Are we really going to point at each other just to feel good about ourselves or win good status? Why cant we place our energy in protecting our Girl? I fail to understand how our country operates........both in leadership and citizens. What a shame.
Jawellnofine9/11/2009 7:49 AM
Those pesky nasty racist imperialists! They pick o our little girl just because she improved so quickly in such a short space of time. They are and their hidden agendas I tell you. I think we should go back to what those previous rulers called the "lager mentality" and have our own competitions! Seriously though, the results are not out yet so lets give her the benefit of the doubt although ASA are handling this badly

OJ9/11/2009 7:44 AM
I think we must admit that the propaganda of the traditionally non-African organisations to hate the ANC and African-South Africans and what they stand for has been very succesful cos every time there is an issue,African and non-African(racial)issues come into play.Let us just try to support Caster in what she is going through,if we can or cannot without politicising her ordeal
anne9/11/2009 7:40 AM
this horse has now been flogged to death - I am quite exhausted from hearing this every single day - can't we just all await the official results? And please note that (s)he is not unique in being gendertested - there have been so many before him/her. this is just part of competing internationally, there are rules and regulations that have to be adhered to, and they won't change just because some athletes from South Africa are competing!
Chris G9/11/2009 7:36 AM
Weight lifters take artificial forms of testosterone to inhance their strength. The only difference here is that the testosterone is coming from within her body. As much as we want equality in this world, there is still a reason why we have male and female leagues. It wouldnt be fair to pit a female boxer against a male one, so then how should it be seen as fair for Caster Semenya to compete against people of which she clearly has an unfair advantage. People dont wish to know about my life... I am not in the public eye.. I am not winning gold medals for my country. But when you put yourself out there in the public eye and represent your country internationally, you should be prepared to be scrutinized. Frankly I have grown extremely tired of this being blamed on a racial issue. The facts are there... this will be the IAAF's 8th gender investigate, from those findings, 4 were asked to leave. This isnt the first time, nor will it be the last. Where there is smoke there is fire. Why should the IAAF receive any flack for doing their jobs..? What about all of the "poor lil athletes" that Semenya beat...?
Sikhu9/11/2009 7:36 AM
It makes me wonder that at her age and also coming from a poor backroun, when and how did she have the means to go for sex change. Caster needs to be defended but i also in a more professional way, MR Chuene please gather all your facts so we know that we are not fighting a loosing battle.
Sande9/11/2009 7:35 AM
I'm really disappointed on IAAF the way this matter has been handled. For this report to be publish in the media in Australia someone within the IAAF has leaked it to the press. This raises questions, if she was from Europe or US they were going to handle this matter so carelessly. Why ASA didn't engage the IAAF immediately to make sure that they are part of every process that takes place. As this involve one the team members(they claim to be proud of). This is no to be a political matter this is very personal it can destroy the future of this athlete. What if she is not aware that she is a hermaphrodite, will she be punished for that? She didn't create herself. IAAF must take drastic actions to whoever leaked this report
ladytiger9/11/2009 7:35 AM
OMG!this saga will never stop - all this is pure speculation!1 question though...has she ever had a "period" if so, then this report is garbage...how could she have a "period" with no womb & ovaries?poor lady...strangely such things will only strengthen her!
Curtix9/11/2009 7:30 AM
Caster is in an embarrassing situation, but she throttled herself there. It is widely known that there can be gender tests in these situations. As a matter of fact there have been gender tests before, by the way to white people. Lots of them. So athletes know the deal before the go in, my sympathy is with this young person, but its not overflowing. Caster knew the sport she was in and tests that could arise. The fact people conclude this is a racial issue is the TRUE IGNORANCE of South Africa, and our true shame as a nation.
Sipho Mboyisa9/11/2009 7:29 AM
We all knew from the moment IT looked so dejected after the announcement that gender tests would be conducted, that IT is a man! Even Chuene and ASA knew it, but they are a bunch of cheats who have embarrassed the country again. Now the typical African way is not to take responsiblity, but accuse everyone else of being sinister and wrong doing then top it off by bawling out "racism". Race is involved, it was a race between women competitors and Chuene entered a man. He is a cheat and has let the people down.
shaun mocke9/11/2009 7:28 AM

OceanRush9/11/2009 7:27 AM
If you want to participate internationally, you must abide by the rules of the international bodies!!! Plain & simple. Yes, the way ASA handled this matter sucks - I feel for Caster! This is the second time ASA drops the ball on the Caster saga. ASA & IAAF should meet around a table as a matter of priority in order for Caster to focus on the next meeting so she can kick ass! Get your act together ASA
stephen9/11/2009 7:22 AM
so lets see now........ Canada are racists for acknoweldging the terrible crime situation in south africa... IAAF and Australia are racists for wanting to clarify the sexual make-up and of clearly-too-masculine female athlete.. how long before they start bleating that Englands SKY news are racists for reporting yesterday that the costs to come watch a Soccer World Cup in 2010 is way to expensive and beyond the reach of most soccer supporters..?? bunch of brainless twats !
Fienjas9/11/2009 7:21 AM
What do you say? Chuene said it all: I am an empty-headed, hiding behind apartheid and racism. Move on, idiote, go find some new means to make a fool of yourself and the ANC. You need to update your list as to who to blame. Running out of ideas? How about the the Americans and their moon-landing?
Et9/11/2009 7:21 AM
Chuene you the one that is responsible for this mess, can you or your mate Julius please tell us what was the result of the first test?? Was there one or not and if not why not???? Caster on behalf of the sports lovers in SA , I apologize that you where not proffesionally managed by ASA!!!
Leon van der Linde9/11/2009 7:20 AM
It is not aimed at Caster, but the BIG athletic countries had the fright of their life when a South African athlete suddenly beat them at their own game. Now they have to discredit her as quick as possible and get her out before the olympics and before she beats their athletes and make the BIG countries look like idiots. I say, Caster, go girl , you can do it. Beat them and let them suffer for a change.
Geanann9/11/2009 12:21 AM
If it was an OK, why wait till Niovember? Chuene protests too much...His defence of Semenya is hysterical and devoid of logic. He evades the truth by shouting interviewers down...the marks of an untruthhfull man. Methinks he protests too much. See:http://letterdash.com/g.annandale/Girls-will-be-Boys-to-SAs-disgrace
Lockstock9/11/2009 12:15 AM
Chuene's 'sinister agenda'is ANC code-speak for 'racism'. Attack is the best form of defence. Nothing but the usual tawdry excuses to gloss over their own complicit lies and cover-ups. Cheats. The lot of them. And that includes Caster.
Renier9/11/2009 12:12 AM
And Chuene adds insult to injury again... Stop humiliating Caster by referring to her as a "little girl". Caster has more guts and glory and has handled this excruciatingly humiliating chain of events with more dignity and maturity than most mature people I know. Instead, Chuene's ranting and raving has left him looking more like an adolescent, than Caster in these circumstances.
K9/11/2009 12:02 AM
What happened to confidentiality ..? What about Caster 's feelings ? No no this is unacceptacle ..does the world really need to know this ? I think this matter should be treated privately , with confidentiality. This is wrong ...!!
TheTruth9/10/2009 11:37 PM
Now that is what I call you have egg all over your face. Just thinking that you can get away with that is stupid. And the ASA is to blame too. It is unfair for woman to compete with men. Can someone explain that to these idiots.
André9/10/2009 11:21 PM
In the beginning everybody blamed white racists - typical of the blaming game. Now a whole can of worms has been opened and the ANC and kie don't have to apologise - do the right thing, turn around drop your head in shame and walk away, don't look back - the tribe does not want you. I feel sorry for it but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and look likes a duck it must be a bloody duck - common sense prevails and proud to be white!
steyn9/10/2009 11:16 PM
Leonard Chuene = imbecile. you idiot, why don't you keep your big black mouth shut and wait for the final results? i will tell you why - you are an absolute RACIST. you never got your job due to your achievements. it was given to you by your other fat ANC comrades in the struggle ( the struggle to corrupt the country ) now the rest of south africa, black and white , have to listen to your crap. it's nobody's fault what happened with the whole Caster debacle. she was born that way. if ASA tested her properly, caster would not have been in this humiliation. you, you racist, knew about the results of the ASA tests and still decided to send her to the championship. i wonder who is the bloody idiot now?
Airwolf9/10/2009 11:13 PM
As can be expected, Leonard Chuene will be throwing himself around while frothing at the mouth and accusing everyone of racism again. Maybe what this idiot should do is start behaving like an adult and focusing his attention on this poor girl for a change instead of trying to draw attention to himself. There is no question that there is some bad news on the way. Why doesn't Chuene make himself useful and start arranging some professional guidance and counseling for Caster. She is going to need to be sensitively informed of this condition and what can be done to help her if need be. This clown along with all the other self congratulating chest beaters are not going to help her cause by making fools of themselves over this. Caster Semenya does not need it either.
vader9/10/2009 11:09 PM
Politics aside! When is a woman a woman in athletics? If you run faster than their favourite then you have internal testicles.Interesting. Proudly South African I got both (internal & external) but ihate running.
LarryG9/10/2009 11:09 PM
Sure Mr Chuene. - The Daily Telegraph is to blame for your incompetence in not performing a gender test before (s)he was allowed to perform internationally? Are you sure Apartheid isn't also to blame? Oh it is? - I must admit that I am now thoroughly confused.
KingPaul9/10/2009 11:08 PM
Is dit nou Caster of Casper?? ASA is verantwoordelik vir die gemors! Hoekom het hulle nie die arme kind getoets voor die worldchamps nie? En hoekom het hulle toegelaat dat sy 'n politieke speelbal word?
cutman9/10/2009 11:06 PM
ASA, are you just acting stupid ?, Why would you want to react to a common tabloid ?. Local tabloids was even worse (The Daily Voice, why that shit is still being published is still beyond me). The point is, there is no official result, so shut up, and take care of Caster and not your own agenda. Leonard, please leave athletics , you are destroying the sport, and the athletes.

The cadres started the nonsense by spinning racist accusations around what would otherwise have been a simple routine matter.
Fanie Denga9/10/2009 10:49 PM
Before we start with the racist comments, let us all wait for the final reports. It should be our duty to support her now. How does she feel? How would you feel is someone told you that you are not what you think you are? Let all of us rather hope that Malema, Winnie and Chuene will stop their racist comments, they are hurting and embarrassing us blacks, an injury to one is an injury to all.

These are the very same people who are always on our case. If we excel at anything they always have something negetive to say. The Soccer World Cup plan B story emanates from that country, remember?

Where is Julius when you need him.

This has all been very poorly handled. The source from the IAAF should be held to account as should the Australian publication for running this story before the results are known to Caster herself. And the ASA have shown their incompetence to all the world whilst the ANC have turned it into a political and racial spectacle. I feel very sorry for her.
