Rome - Roland Schoeman, Graeme Moore and Wendy Trott kept SA in the hunt against the international challenge on the sixth morning of swim action at the FINA World Championships on Friday.
Schoeman, who failed to advance to the semi-finals of the 50 metres butterfly and 100 metres freestyle earlier in the week, finished 9th overall in the semi-finals of the 50 metres freestyle heats in 21.82 secs, while Moore - competing at his first major international event for SA - ended 16th in 22.04.
In the same discipline, Brazilian Cesar Cielo continued from where he left off having clocked a world record in the final of the 100 metres freestyle on Thursday, to set a championship record of 21.37 in this morning's heats.
Another South African to earn a spot in a final, was Wendy Trott, whose time of 8 min 27.26, was the seventh fastest in the 800 metres freestyle heats.
The SA 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay team of Jean Basson, Sebastien Rousseau, Jasper Venter and Darian Townsend also qualified for the final, clocking the seventh fastest time of the heats (7:08.01) - an African best well inside the 7:10.91 set by the same four individuals at the Beijing Olympics last year.
In the 100 metres butterfly, Lyndon Ferns (25th in 52.08) and Darian Townsend (53rd in 53.04) failed to make the next round, as was the case with Jessica Pengelly (32nd in the 200 metres backstroke in 2:16.06).
