Twitter reacts to the death of Willie Toweel

Cape Town - Willie Toweel, one of the legends of the South African boxing ring and the last of the fighting Toweel's, passed away at his home on Christmas evening.

He was 83.

Toweel, who was trained by his father "Papa Mike", claimed a bronze medal for South Africa at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.

He was undoubtedly one of the best fighters South Africa ever produced and retired at the age of 27 with a record of 46-6-2, including 23 wins inside the distance.

Toweel became a boxing trainer following his pro career and lived in Randburg until his death.
