Tragedy strikes Snaith Racing

Cape Town - A tragic accident outside of Laingsburg has claimed the life of a groomsman and three horses in the Snaith yard.

New Turf Carriers reported that on Sunday morning one of their trucks had a tragic accident en route to Cape Town.

Sadly one of the grooms caring for the horses in transit died and three horses were euthanised.

The surviving horses and staff are on the way back to Cape Town.

New Turf Carriers have sent their deepest condolences to Snaith Racing and their patrons and their heartfelt thanks for their understanding during this hard time.

Trainer Justin Snaith and his brother Jonathan, issued the following statement:

Hi All,

Thanks for all your wishes and amazing support.
The three horses who didn't make it home were very dear to us and had the kindest temperaments - we were privileged to care for such amazing horses. They will be sadly missed by everyone in our yard.
We feel deeply for a family who lost their loved one - Elias was a champion.
We are grateful for the horses who survived the accident who are currently on route home, unharmed.
Thanks to New Turf Carriers for the way in which they handled everything and the extra care they give our horses.
Thanks to all through this difficult time.
