Sandes wins in Madagascar

Johannesburg - South African trail runner Ryan Sandes has claimed first place in the Racing The Planet Madagascar race on Saturday.

Sandes won in a total time of 22 hours 46 minutes and 25 seconds (22:46:25) ahead of Japan's Wataru Ilno (23:09:44) in the six day multi-stage race covering 250km on the island of Madagascar.

Sandes was pleased to have notched up a victory in the gruelling ultra trail running multi-day event.

"I'm super stoked to have won Racing The Planet Madagascar," said Sandes.

"It was a fun week with so many epic memories."

Sandes said the consecutive racing days took its toll on his body.

"I had forgotten how tough multi stage racing is, but it was great to be back at it again.

"It was great to take in the awesome scenery and really enjoy myself."
