New event on SA racing calendar

Cape Town - The South African racing and social calendar will see the addition of a prestigious new event in November this year.

The inaugural Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes, presented by Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS), will open the country’s horse racing season, and is set to become an annual highlight for all racing enthusiasts.

On Saturday, November 23, Kenilworth Racecourse will once again come alive with horse enthusiasts, superb entertainment, good food and top class wine, as this glitzy event makes its debut.

Lanzerac Hotel & Spa, a working wine farm dating back to 1692 and one of Stellenbosch’s best kept secrets, is now more than a luxury hotel.

“Our exclusive five-star estate took the leap and has become the select partner, agreeing to sponsor the upcoming R 2million Ready To Run Stakes Race, as well as the 2013 CTS Ready To Run Sale,” says Hans Steyn, General Manager of Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.

The Race will be known as the 2013 Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes, presented by CTS, while the Sale has been renamed the CTS Ready To Run Sale, presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.

The CTS Ready To Run Sale presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa is only the second Ready To Run Sale held by CTS, with this year’s Sale taking place on November 22, the day before the Race.

The sale, an opportunity to view and buy top class horses, has grown in popularity since the first one held last year, with 20% more horses catalogued this year.

Early indications are that buyers can look forward to an impressive line-up of horses, with most of the major stallions represented.

Not only do purchases also qualify for the 2014 Ready To Run Stakes race, but the Sale also provides the chance to shop for a potential future champion at an affordable price. The 2012 Sale excelled and not only produced two stake horses, but two of the most promising two year olds of the 2012/13 Cape season, namely Antonius Du Bois and Red Ray - both clashing it out on November 23's Lanzerac Ready to Run Stakes presented by CTS.

“Both these horses embody the Lanzerac qualities of affordable excellence and the partnership between Lanzerac Hotel & Spa and Cape Thoroughbred Sales was evidently a perfect fit. We eagerly anticipate the victories,” says Adrian Todd, Cape Thoroughbred Sales Chief Operating Officer.

A day at the races is a wonderful occasion and the perfect excuse to don your very best outfit! Gentlemen and ladies are expected to dress in a suitable fashion, following a formal dress code. The event will provide a variety of delectable food and drink on the day, with Lanzerac wines rounding it off superbly.
