Cape Town - Angola Cables, who own Angolan yacht Bille, have confirmed that one of their crew members died in the Cape to Rio yacht race at the weekend.
During a brutal storm out at sea, Bille was dismasted, which led to the death of crewman António Bartolomeu.
Three other sailors were also injured.
Bille stopped about 100 nautical miles from Cape Town and the crew were rescued by SAS Islandwana and are currently en route back to Cape Town.
Management of Angola Cables are shocked by the tragic incident and have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Bartolomeu.
