Durban for Olympic Games

Johannesburg - South Africa's Olympic committee says Durban is the country's only candidate to host the 2020 Olympics.

South Africa's Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee says the bidding process is "finalised" as far as it is concerned after Durban was the only city to submit a bid.

SASCOC had also invited Cape Town, Johannesburg and the south coast city of Port Elizabeth to present their cases.

The government will now decide whether to submit a formal bid to the International Olympic Committee.

The IOC will ask countries to submit bids for the 2020 Games after the IOC session next July - which is hosted by Durban.

In the meantime, SASCOC says "extensive investigation and feasibility studies" will be done in Durban.
