Sam, the head of the country's Olympic governing body, was speaking on the cabinet reshuffle announced by President Jacob Zuma in Pretoria on Sunday.

"We welcome Minister Mbalula and as the country's sports movement we stand ready to carry out his wishes and dreams of making South Africa a sporting nation that will be respected globally," said Sam.

Sam also had kind words for the departing Sports and Recreation Minister Makhenkesi Stofile.

"We must thank Minister Stofile for his enormous contribution to sport as well as his guidance down the years. We also hope that his vast sporting knowledge will not be lost to the country and can still be utilised in some form.

"For now though, the 2012 Olympics in London get ever closer and Minister Mbalula will be a key part of our drive for success in this regard."

I hope a change in Minister means a change in direction for SA sport. Please concentrate on the progress of all sporting codes. Rugby, Cricket and Soccer are functioning fairly well. I would like some government input to Tennis, swimming and netball to assist these sports through sponsorship and training facilities. government must make all playing facilities available to everyone and introduce a range of sports equipment that are to be affordable to grass routes. Lets be the best of the best and worry when top athletes sit at home..

I hate to say it, but I think we'll see the total collapse of government support of sport with this clown running the show. He's just feeding at the trough for a bit and is so totally and utterly incompetent that I cannot see him doing anything right.
