SA women lose to Argentina

Johannesburg - The South African women’s hockey team were narrowly beaten by World Champions Argentina 2-1, in the teams’ second match of the Four Nations tournament in Parana, Argentina on Friday

The goals came from Rosario Luchetti for Argentina in the 14th minute, and SA captain Marsha Marescia seven minutes after the break, before Daniela Sruoga grabbed the winner 11 minutes from full time.

After Friday’s much-needed rest day, it leaves South Africa and India in a must-win clash on Saturday to decide who will be Argentina’s opponents in the next round.

South Africa went into the match without Lesle-Ann George, who was injured in Wednesday’s match. George and Shelley Russell (hamstring) will miss the India match.
