SA in the medals in Moscow

Moscow - The South African swimming team claimed two golds and two bronze medals on the first day of the second last leg at the FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup in Moscow on Tuesday.

Roland Schoeman, who is currently ranked in third position based on the points accumulated over the past four legs, raced to a golden 26.48 in the 50m breaststroke. Following closely behind was Brazil's Junior Gomes in 26.96 and Russia's Stanislav Lakhtyukhov in 27.10.

Later on the in the evening, Schoeman made his second trip to the podium when he won the bronze medal in the 50m butterfly with a time of 23.03. The gold medal went to Nikita Konovalov from Russia in 22.87 and the silver to Germany's Steffen Deibler in 22.96.

Lyndon Ferns swam to South Africa's second gold of the night when he touched the wall in 47.46 in the 100m freestyle race. Russia's Nikita Konovalov (47.60) and Evgeny Lagunov (47.71) took the silver and bronze respectively.

In the 100m individual medley, Darian Townsend finished third clocking 53.43. Townsend is currently sitting in second position based on the collected points from the previous four legs.

The Moscow leg of the FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup ends Wednesday, following which the swimmers move to Stockholm for the final event on November 6th and 7th.
