SA ladies beat Argentina

Johannesburg - The South Africa women's hockey team beat Argentina for the first time ever in their fifth and final Test at the University of the Free State hockey centre in Bloemfontein on Friday.

The South Africans won 4-0, with goals from player of the match Tarryn Bright, world-ranked goalscorer Pietie Coetzee, Free State striker Hettie Oosthuizen, and Northern Gauteng Blues' captain Kim Hubach.

The win came after losses of 2-0, 2-0, 2-1 and 6-1 in the previous Tests, which cost the South Africans the series 4-1.

South African trainer Greg Beling said the team was a bit flat in the first few Tests because of the national camp on December 5.

They also had to fight off gastric flu, which played a part in their 6-1 defeat on Thursday.

While the Argentinians started off fresh and full of running, they were feeling it by the end of the fifth Test in six days, Beling said.

The national squad will play 19 Test matches against China, Belgium and Azerbaijan in Johannesburg and Bloemfontein in late January and early February.
