SA hockey men thrash Zim

Johannesburg - The South African men’s hockey team beat Zimbabwe 10-0 in the Africa Cup Olympic Games Qualifier tournament match in Bulawayo’s Khumalo Hockey Stadium Sunday night.

The SA team led 4-0 at halftime. The goals came from Gareth Carr, Justin Reid-Ross (4), Ian Haley (2), Miguel da Graca, Tim Drummond and Andrew Cronje. South Africa opened with a Carr penalty corner.

Then it was Reid-Ross’s turn to trouble the scorekeepers with his penalty corner to double the lead. Ian Haley made it 3-0 from inside the six-yard area and with 19 minutes to half-time.

Reid-Ross was involved again as he scored his second on the stroke of halftime to lead the home side by four. In the second half midfielder Tim Drummond had the presence of mind to create space for Reid-Ross’s hat-trick and the second field goal of the match.

Cronje and Da Graca both chipped in with goals of their own shortly after. Haley got his second and Drummond made it 10-0 in the last minute. On Monday, the SA women face Ghana and the men meet the Ghanaians.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
