Johannesburg - South African boxer Jared Lovett has been banned for two years after testing positive for steroids.

Lovett tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol on July 11, 2009, after his loss on points to Thomas Oosthuizen in a bout for the IBO Light Heavyweight Youth Belt.

The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport held a hearing on the case last month and announced Lovett's two-year ban on Thursday.

The ban lasts until July 2011.

The 23-year-old Lovett, nicknamed "The Storm", told The Sowetan on Friday that he will take the punishment "on the chin."

*********************I think this is a great loss to the boxing fans as he is a FANTASTIC boxer - what a shame. Never mind his reputation - as we are not sure of what is revealed, it could be lies. How do you know waht is said is always true?? Do not believe all you see and hear in the press. I reckon people are just jealous. I adore Lovett's passion and skill with regards to his boxing and I am heart-sore to see this happen to such a 'sport'. I await to see loyal 'Lovett fans' turn to where he turns. I am very disappointed with the result - although I know he shouldn't have taken the steroids, i think two years is HARSH! I HOPE LOVETT comes back to boxing and doesnt turn to another sport... this could just be the calm before the 'Storm'. DONT JUST FOLLOW WHAT OTHERS SAY! THIS IS ABOUT BOXING AND BOXERS TALENT and LOVETT IS BRILLIANT! :)

2 years for admitting guilt to taking performance enhancing steroids. I reckon he got off lightly considering other sportsmen and women get the same for recreational. I say give the guy 5 to think about it. Loser!

I agree he is a bully.......and i would love to meet him one day in the street so that i can kick he's ass.......Pro boxer my ass........i think he is more of a plank then a boxer........

A useless bully known around JHB for picking on amateurs in the street. I don't even think you could call this buffoon a professional boxer. I thought you were retiring if you lost the fight Mr Lovett? Do yourself and us a favor and live up to your word.

Shame, he couldn't even beat Tommygun with performance enhancing drugs! Shame, i pity you!!

Not surprising to hear this about this character! His antics in the south of Johannesburg are well documented and the use of steroids in his attempt to beat Tommy Oosthuizen seems befitting of someone with such a glaring lack of champion pedigree!

This thug should stick to street fighting. As soon there are rules, he is "bombed".............
