London - Former world light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton will return to boxing this year, the Englishman announced on his website on Wednesday.
Hatton, 31, has been mulling his future since being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas in May 2009.
His only other defeat in a 47-fight career was to Floyd Mayweather Jr but the severity of his second round defeat by Pacquiao led many of his closest acquaintances to urge him to retire.
Despite that advice, Hatton has decided to have at least one more fight.
"I've decided to make a comeback and have another fight this year - probably round about the summertime," he said.
"There's been no opponent that has been confirmed yet. There's been no date confirmed yet. But the point is I have made my mind up I am going to have one more fight."
