Cape Town - In the early hours of Monday morning, the world witnessed history and it came in the form of 24-year-old Wayde van Niekerk and South Africans were beaming.
Van Niekerk not only set a new world record in the 400m, but also became the first South African track athlete to win a gold medal in nearly a century, and with that being said there might not be one South African who hasn't watched him stop the clock at 43.03.

The world finally got to hear our national anthem blasted at an Olympic track and field stadium and Van Niekerk finally got his gold medal on Tuesday morning SA time (watch below).
