Cape Town - SA javelin thrower Sunette Viljoen on Thursday confirmed that she has received the first part of her Olympic payment promised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).

Viljoen pocketed R200 000 for claiming the silver medal at the recently completed Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Earlier in the week, Viljoen, who is a part of SASCOC's Operation Excellence (OPEX) programme, had criticised SASCOC, claiming she had not been paid since February this year.

However, on this occasion, SASCOC was quick to keep its promise and Viljoen confirmed that the money was paid on Thursday.

She wrote on her official Twitter account:

Sports minister Fikile Mbalula earlier this week said all medallists would receive additional bonuses, with silver medallists to be paid an additional R70 000.

Gold medal winners in Rio received an extra R100 000 with bronze medallists paid an extra R50 000.
