Tandy into 50m freestyle semis

Cape Town - Team SA's fortunes on Day 7 at the Rio Olympics in the pool got off to a fast start when Brad Tandy qualified for the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle.

Swimming in heat 9, Tandy posted the fourth-fastest time of 21.94.

Tandy's time wound up to be the 12th-fastest overall, securing his spot in the semi-finals which will be swum from 03:03 (SA time) on Friday morning.

Tandy's team-mate Doug Brown was less fortunate.

Brown, swimming in heat 7, was also fourth-fastest in 22.37, but finished up 29th-quickest and outside the top-16 spots to qualify for the semis.

The Ukraine's Andriy Govorov posted the fastest time of 21.49.
