Phelps v Le Clos: Spoiler alert?

Cape Town - The expected battle between defending champion Chad le Clos and USA superstar Michael Phelps in the 200m butterfly could have a spoiler...

MEDAL ALERT! Le Clos wins silver in 200m freestyle

In Monday's (Tuesday morning SA time) semi-finals it was Hungary's Tamás Kenderesi who posted the fastest time heading into Tuesday's (Wednesday at 03:28 SA time) final.

Kenderesi beat both Phelps and Le Clos in winning the second semi-final in a time of 1:53:96.

Phelps was next best in 1:54:12 with Le Clos back in third in 1:55:19.

Kenderesi's compatriot László Cseh won the first semi-final in 1:55:18 for the third-quickest time heading into the final.

Kenderesi will have Lane 4 for the final, alongside Phelps in Lane 5 who will be seeking a staggering 20th Olympic gold medal.

Cseh will occupy Lane 3 with Le Clos in Lane 6 - alongside his idol - and fiercest rival - Phelps.
