Conley, Palframan miss out in sprints

Cape Town - South African's Alyssa Conley and Justine Palframan missed out qualifying for the next round of the women's 200m at the Rio Olympic Games on Monday.

Conley would finish fourth in Heat 4 with a time of 23.17 seconds, while Palframan clocked a 23.33 and finished fifth in her heat.

The times put Conley in 36th overall, while Palframan was 43rd out of 72 athletes.

Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast was fastest in the heats, posting a 22.31.

Meanwhile, world champion Dafne Schippers was happy with her heat, which she won convincingly.

"I feel better than I did before and I'm much happier with this one," said the Dutchwoman.

"My 100m was not so good but my body is very good and I know that I can run the 200m very good. I now get ready for the final."
