Chad to pull out of medley relay?

Rio de Janeiro - Chad le Clos is not sure if he will be swimming in the heats of the 4x100m medley relay in Rio on Friday.

Le Clos was due to swim the butterfly alongside Cameron van der Burgh (breaststroke), Christopher Reid (backstroke) while the freestyle was a toss-up between Douglas Erasmus and Brad Tandy, but there was uncertainty on Thursday night (Friday morning, SA time) over whether the 2012 Olympic champion would be swimming.

"I don't know ... good question, actually. I'm going to ask the coach now," Le Clos said after his semi-final swim in the 100m butterfly.

"I'm not sure. It's not confirmed."

Le Clos added that the decision would be solely coach Graham Hill's.

"I just swim," he said.

"I'll be honest, I'm not too sure. I've been really going race by race and day by day.

"We'll see. I'm sure whatever happens we'll just try and get through (to the final) and see what happens on Saturday (when the medley relay final takes place)."

Le Clos will be swimming the 100m butterfly final later on Friday night (Saturday morning, SA time) and that would be the main reason for Hill pulling him out of the medley if he did.
