Semenya is widely expected to win the gold medal in the women's 800m final on Sunday (02:15 SA time).

She starts her campaign for gold in the heats on Wednesday (16:02 SA time).

Semenya took to Facebook this week to send her congratulations to Wayde van Niekerk on his gold medal - and world record run - in the 400m.

She also had praise for Luvo Manyonga and his silver in the long jump.

Not forgetting the swimmers, Semenya congratulated Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos for their silver medals. Semenya had extra praise for Le Clos in becoming SA most decorated Olympian.

In closing she had kinds words for the Blitzboks and their bronze medal and the SA rowing duo of Lawrence Brittain and Shaun Keeling who claimed silver.

Although they weren't medal winners, Semenya had special praise for Akani Simbine for his fifth-place finish in the 100m and Rushwahl Samaai in the long jump.
