Bookmakers back Caster for 'sure' gold

Cape Town - They say the only certainties in life are death and taxes ... perhaps add Caster Semenya winning gold in the women's 800m in Rio to that list.

Semenya cruised through her heat on Wednesday, winning in a time of 1:59.31.

She then upped her pace, posting the fastest time in Thursday's semi-finals (1:58.15)

The final will take place on Saturday (02:15 on Sunday, SA time).

Leading SA bookies Sportingbet have installed the 25-year-old Semenya as an overwhelming 1/16 favourite.

Kenya's Margaret Wambui is next best at 14/1, followed by Burundi's Francine Niyonsaba at 16/1.

As of Friday morning, Team SA has one gold, six silvers and two bronze medals and lie 34th in the overall Rio Olympics medal table.
