Last SA medal in the pool?

London - The men's 100m butterfly may well represent the final chance for Team SA to add to their two gold medals in the pool at the 2012 London Olympics.

Chad le Clos qualified quickest for the semi-finals in Thursday morning's heats in a time of 51.54, ahead of second-placed American Michael Phelps in 54.72.

Le Clos will start in Lane 4 of Heat 2 in Thursday evening's semi-finals (21:56 SA time).

Le Clos, who won the men's 200m butterfly in scintillating fashion earlier in the week, pulled out of the final of the men's 200m individual medley on Thursday to focus his attention on his speciality stroke, butterfly.

Leading SA bookmakers, Ladbrokes, have quoted Le Clos as joint second favourite at 5/1 to add a second gold medal to his tally, behind Phelps who is the favourite for victory at 4/5.

Suzaan van Biljon will also have a chance to grab a medal when she lines up in the women's 200m breastroke final on Thursday night. (20:40 SA time)
