Johannesburg - South African boxer Evans Mbamba will fight Mexico's Mario Briones for the vacant WBF junior featherweight title at Graceland Casino, Secunda on June 29.
The bout scheduled for 12 rounds will provide 31-year-old Mbamba the chance to add to his 18 professional wins from his 21-fight career.
Mbamba replaced WBA Pan African super bantamweight champion Tshifiwe 'Atomic Spider' Munyai who had been medically advised to lay off for six weeks, and has been forced to withdraw from the event.
Mbamba, has challenged three times for WBC titles (international and interim) and as well the IBO championship.
Briones, 27, has a record of 28 fights, with three defeats and a draw.
Fight promoter Thinus Strydom, said he was pleased Mbamba would be given a WBF title shot.
"We've been fortunate to recruit Mbamba who is deserving of a crack at a world title," said Strydom.
"He's has some close calls in previous championship bouts outside the country, but hopefully he'll do better on home soil."
