Le Clos targets another medal

Istanbul - Chad le Clos ensured a shot at another medal for Team SA on Day 3 of the FINA World Swimming Championships in Istanbul on Friday.

Le Clos, who clinched gold and silver at the 2012 London Olympics, qualified third fastest in his heat of the 50m Butterfly semi-final in a time of 22.70s.

He finished behind Thomas Shields (USA) in 22.59s and Frederik Bousquet (France) in 22.61s.

Le Clos would have his work cut out to bring home another gold medal for Team SA after Nicholas Santos (Brazil) smashed a new Championship Record with his time of 22.23 in heat 2.

The final takes place on Saturday night. Earlier Devon Myles Brown narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the Men's 400m Freestyle with his time of 3:42.76s only good enough to earn him a spot on the reserve list.

Paul Biedermann (Germany) went on to win the final in a time of 3:39.14s. None of the other Team SA swimmers made it out of their heats on day 3.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
