Le Clos goes for 50m title

Johannesburg - Team South Africa has its eye on a second medal at the Fina World Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday evening when Olympic champion Chad le Clos swims in the final of the men's 50m butterfly.

Le Clos finished third fastest in his heat on Friday morning in 22.70 seconds behind Thomas Shields (USA) in 22.59 and Frederik Bousquet (France) in 22.61.

Nicholas Santos (Brazil) smashed a new Championship Record in the event with his time of 22.23 in the second heat.

After day three, the USA topped the medals table with 17 (7 gold; 4 silver; 6 bronze) medals; followed by Hungary with 7 (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze), and Germany with 4 (2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze).
