Cape Town - Lance Armstrong has hit the ground cycling after arriving in Cape Town - and appears to have fallen in love with the Mother City.

Armstrong is in South Africa to raise funds for the JAG Foundation and to raise awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles and the power of sport in transforming youth communities.

Armstrong will also take part in the Argus Cycle Tour on Sunday, March 14.

After a hiccup at Cape Town International airport on Monday evening regarding his passport which didn't contain the required two blanks pages, Armstrong took to the road on Tuesday morning, posting the following message on his Twitter page:

"Done w/ a nice 3hr ride. I've heard many times before that Cape Town is stunning. That was no lie. What a place."

Armstrong posed for a picture along Chapman's Peak alongside fellow RadioShack rider, SA's Daryl Impey.

On Tuesday evening, 450 guests will spend the evening with Lance and South Africa’s most celebrated sporting personalities at the Cape Town Soccer World Cup stadium in Green Point.

The “Ride with Lance’ will be hosted on March 10 with 40 top business and sports personalities embarking on a social 100km ride with the cycling legend.

An 850 strong crowd will attend the breakfast function on March 11 at the Constantia Uitsig Vineyard. The audience will have an opportunity to listen to Lance’s life lessons as interviewed by the "voice of cycling", Phil Liggett.
