Kenyan wins Sydney marathon

Sydney - Kenya's Julius Seurei won the Sydney marathon by more than nine minutes from his nearest rival on Sunday.

Running on the same route used for the 2000 Olympics, Seurei raced to victory in two hours 17 minutes and seven seconds.

Japan's Koji Taniguchi was second in 2:26.15 with Australian Jeremy Horne third in 2:33.47.

Naoko Tsuchiya won the women's event for the third time in 2:52.46 ahead of fellow Japanese runner Nori Furuya (2:59.08) and Australia's Verity Tolhurst (3:03.03).
