Karate, Powerboating in shambles

Johannesburg - South Africa's Olympic governing body SASCOC announced on Wednesday that two of its National Federations had been placed under administration with immediate effect.

SASCOC Board member James Letuka has been appointed administrator of Karate SA. He will report directly to the SASCOC chief executive. Letuka's chief task is to restructure the organisation to form and incorporate all disciplines and dissident groups within the sport.

There will be a forensic audit into the finances of Karate SA and everyone who had access to them.

Another board member, Kobus Marais, has been appointed administrator of powerboating. He will also report directly to the SASCOC chief executive Tubby Reddy on all matters pertaining to Powerboat SA and its affiliates.

Marais will convene all meetings of Powerboat SA, the South African Pleasure Boat Association, the Junior Powerboat Racing Association, the South African Inflatable Boat Association, the F1 Association and the SA Jet Ski Association.

He will structure all the above-mentioned disciplines to comply with SASCOC's requirements, including the calling and conducting of Annual General Meetings.

He will ensure that all scheduled events take place and are fully compliant.

A forensic audit will be conducted into the finances of the six associations.

Reddy said SASCOC remained committed to ensuring that all bodies under its jurisdiction were run in a business-like and professional manner.
