Johannesburg - Former IBF strawweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi will be given a chance of reviving his career in a junior flyweight bout for the WBC international title against Filipino Benezer Alodod at Emperors Palace on August 31.
It had initially been announced that Joyi, who recently failed in his bid to annex the IBO title from Hekkie Budler, would be fighting for the organisation's super flyweight title held by Filipino Edrin Dapudong.
Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman said the programme had been pieced together with the objective of mixing crowd-pleasing fighters with top-level title contenders.
With this in mind, the four-bout programme will be headed by chunky Ilunga "Junior" Makuba's defence of his WBC silver cruiserweight title against American Eric Fields.
Makuba boasts a record of 14 wins against a solitary defeat, against Fields's 21 wins and a single defeat.
"We were looking for an easier opponent after Junior's striking wins in Monte Carlo, but the promoters insisted my boxer has elevated himself to a higher category and warranted a better opponent," said Makuba's manager Brian Mitchell.
Despite his impressive record, Fields had yet to beat anyone from a higher bracket.
Rayno Liebenberg will test his mettle against Argentinian Gabriel Ramirez for the WBC light-heavyweight silver belt.
Johnny Muller and Tshepang Mohale have been given the opportunity of fighting for the South African light-heavyweight title, despite both suffering defeats in their recent bouts.
Mohale stopped the battling Muller when the pair previously met. He however showed improved form and great courage while losing to Liebenberg recently, and was capable of reversing that result.
