SA's Roets takes gold in IMMAF World Champs

Cape Town - Pieter Roedulf Roets, more commonly known as Roedie Roets, took gold in the Men’s Lightweight final at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Roets advanced to the final on Friday after defeating Romanian Iorga Cristian via an unanimous decision at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Roets, who weighs 70.31kg, fought his way to TKO Bulgaria's Ferdun Osmanov to win the men's lightweight final for South Africa.

The next IMMAF tournament will be held in South Africa, as the 2016 IMMAF Africa Open Championships will take place from 29 August to 4 September 2016 in Johannesburg.

The tournament will see amateur MMA competitors from across the world compete in various classes, spanning Strawweight to Lightweight for women and Flyweight to Super Heavyweight for men.
