Cape Town - UFC president Dana White believes that a rematch between Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey is sure to happen.
“I think if we didn’t make the rematch, me and Lorenzo Fertita (UFC CEO) should probably lose our promoters’ license. Yeah that fight’s going to happen. I don’t know when, but that’s the fight that will happen.”
Despite an all-round domination from Holm (10-0), Dana White went onto say the decision is an easy one. Ronda’s record breaking performances prior to her first loss at UFC 192 warrant an immediate rematch.
Rousey (12-1) had gone undefeated in her first 12 fights before meeting Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 192 in Melbourne, Australia.
The former champion had made very short work of her previous four opponents, disposing of them all in the first round.
Holm who upset the champion in devastating fashion (head/neck kick KO) came into her third UFC fight a huge underdog, but the 19-time boxing champion had other ideas.
Out-striking and out-classing the champion at every turn. The crisp and fluid counter punching of Holm seemed to have rattled the seemingly frustrated Rousey and in the second round a left hand from Holm hurt the champ badly and a follow up high kick sealed the deal.
Now, with the rematch announced no official dates or timeline was given. Rousey made it clear prior to UFC 193 that win or lose she would “disappear” for a while after.
“Holly agrees she (Ronda) deserves a rematch, and we’ll figure it out,” added White.
