Purses revealed for Mayweather v McGregor

Cape Town - The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) revealed how much money Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will make from their highly anticipated boxing match.

The NSAC released the figures late on Friday night in Vegas, indicating that Mayweather will pocket no less than $100 million while his UFC counterpart will take home at least $30 million.

"But that's not that much..." we hear you say.

Well, these numbers don't paint the full picture. The big money the fighters are after is in the selling of the pay-per views, with the live gate revenue adding a cash-heavy cherry on top of that.

The current PPV record stands at 4.6 million buys, which Mayweather set when he and Filipino slugger Manny Pacquiao danced around the ring for in 2015. Mayweather earned a cool $220 million just from the PPV's for that.

However, UFC overlord Dana White said last week that the "Money Fight" - as quite correctly promoted by Showtime - is set to blow that 4.6 million mark out of the water. It is also the most expensive, costing $99.95 a pop.

So with a conservative estimate of five or six million buys, multiplied by $100 adds up to an obscene amount of money... money that the likes of McGregor has never seen before.

The current UFC lightweight champion revealed in 2016 that he stood to make around $40 million in his next three fights in the octagon combined.

With just one step in the boxing ring, McGregor is going to earn the kind of money his great-grandchildren will benefit from.
