Cape Town - UFC 202 may be months away but UFC officials are looking to stack the card as a very exciting bantamweight match-up is being targeted for the event.
A report by MMAFighting.com stated that the promotion was looking to book Cody Garbrandt and Takeya Mizugaki for the card in August. Sport24 later confirmed with a source close to the information that the bout is indeed being targeted for the August card.
Garbrandt (9-0) is currently tearing through the bantamweight division since his arrival to the promotion last year. The Team Alpha Male standout has finished three of his four UFC bouts and most recently stopped rising star Thomas Almeida in dominant fashion.
Mizugaki (21-9-2) a former WEC alum broke a two-fight losing streak last September when he bested fellow WEC veteran George Roop in Japan. Prior the meeting with Roop, Mizugaki had won 5 of his last 7 with losses to the bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Aljamin Sterling.
UFC 202 takes place Aug. 20 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by the highly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
