Cape Town - The most highly anticipated rematch in recent UFC history is set and ready to go as current UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will take on his rival and former champion Jon Jones in the Main Event of UFC 197 in April.

The two men first met in January 2015, where after weeks of heated exchanges, social media rants and an actual brawl erupted at a press conference in Las Vegas, Jon Jones remained champion thanks to a unanimous decision victory.

Not long after the bout Jones was suspended and stripped of his title after a hit and run incident.

Cormier would then go onto beat Anthony Johnson via submission to win the vacated belt.

Jones (21-1) won the title back in March of 2011 when he defeated Mauricio Rua via TKO at UFC 128, also becoming the youngest champion in Promotional history. The four-year eight-fight reign would be one of the greatest in Mixed Martial Arts history with Jones defeating four former champions on his way to record-breaking performances.

With wins over the division's toughest and most dangerous such as Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort and Alexander Gustafsson the future for Jon Jones was getting brighter and brighter.

Regardless of a number of incidents and legal issues outside of the Octagon, Jon Jones always remained the greatest fighter in the modern day era of the UFC.

He was not only the youngest promotional champion, but became the first Mixed Martial artist to be globally sponsored by Nike, Gatorade and MuscleTech.

He also holds the record for the most consecutive light-heavyweight title defences.

Cormier (17-1) is coming off of a hard fought win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 last October. The victory was his first title defence since winning the belt at UFC 187 where he beat Anthony Johnson via third round rear naked choke. Cormier holds victories over Dan Henderson, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir and Josh Barnett and his only loss is at the hands of his bitter rival, Jones.

Now the champion, Cormier has made it known he would like to avenge his loss and has the “recipe” to beat the No. 1 pound for pound fighter in the world.

DC and Jones have gone back and forth on social media and during interviews and things are heating up ahead of the blockbuster rematch once again.

With the roles now reversed since the first fight, the talking is about to become reality as these two rivals are set to get their hands on each other once again.
