Ali released from hospital

Louisville - Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was released from hospital earlier on Friday.

Ali had been hospitalised for continued treatment for a severe urinary tract infection.

The boxing legend is now at his home, family spokesperson Bob Gunnell confirmed.

Gunnell said Ali is looking forward to celebrating his 73rd birthday on Saturday with his family and friends while cheering on the University of Louisville Cardinals Basketball team in their game against the Duke University Blue Devils.

“The Ali family greatly appreciates the outpouring of support and continued well wishes,” said Gunnell.

Ali was admitted to an undisclosed hospital earlier this week. It was his second hospital visit in the last month.

The three-time former heavyweight champ was released from hospital on January 7 after a two week stay for what was then thought to be pneumonia.

But doctors ultimately determined he had a urinary tract infection.

Ali is also an Olympic gold medallist and has suffered from Parkinson's disease since the 1980s.
