A-Rod sets grand slam record

New York - Alex Rodriguez has hit his 24th career grand slam, breaking a tie with Lou Gehrig for most in Major League Baseball history.

The Yankees' Rodriguez connected off San Francisco Giants reliever George Kontos with two outs in the seventh innings on Friday, sending a drive to right-centre field that gave New York a 5-1 lead.

It was Rodriguez's 14th slam with the Yankees, moving him one past Joe DiMaggio for second place on the team's all-time list.

The homerun was the 654th of Rodriguez's career. He is six homers behind Willie Mays for fourth on the MLB all-time list.

Rodriguez is continuing to play while he appeals a 211-game suspension that stemmed from Major League Baseball's investigation into the now-closed Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs to players.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
