Infection delays Rice's return

Melbourne - An infection has delayed Australian swimming star Stephanie Rice's planned return to training following shoulder surgery.

The three-time Olympic champion was expected to be back in the pool Tuesday after having arthroscopic surgery on a torn tendon last week, but doctors have advised her to wait until the wound was fully healed.

A prolific tweeter, Rice said on Twitter Monday: "Doc said it was slightly infected. Got some antibiotics and can get into (cross)-training again tomorrow."

Rice's coach Michael Bohl said last week that her return to swimming would be treated cautiously to ensure she is fit for the Australian Olympic trials in Adelaide from March 15-22.
