Cape Town - South African star Caster Semenya will take to the track in her unfavoured 1 500m event at the IAAF World Championship on Monday evening, looking to add to Team SA's medal tally.

Semenya qualified for the final by finishing third in her semi-final in a time of 4:03.80.

Leading SA bookmakers Sportingbet have the race as a three-way battle for gold, with the Netherlands' Sifan Hassen a narrow 5/4 favourite ahead of Semenya (2/1) and Kenya's Faith Kipyegon (9/4).

Semenya's favoured event - the 800m - will be contested on the final day of competition, Sunday, August 13 at 21:10 (SA time).

To date, South Africa boast two medals - a gold and a bronze - won by long jumpers Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai, respectively.

The women's 1 500m will be the final event on Monday's programme, starting at 22:50 (SA time).
