Cape Town - South Africa's Antonio Alkana has failed to qualify for the men's 110m hurdle final at the IAAF World Championships in London.

Alkana, running on the outside in lane nine, finished his semi-final in fourth place with a time of 13.59.

Hungarian's Balazs Baji stopped the clock in 13.23, as America's Aries Merritt, who won the 2012 Olympic 110m hurdles gold medal, finished second in a time of 13.25.

Alkana, who is the African champion, needed 13.23 or better to qualify for the final.

The final of the men's 110m hurdles takes place on Monday (22:30 SA time).
