Dubai - South Africa bagged their first medal of the FINA World Short Course Championships in Dubai when Cameron van der Burgh won the 100m breaststroke final in a new championship record-time of 56.80 seconds.
Van der Burgh touched 0.33 seconds ahead of Italy's Fabio Scozzoli.
Felipe Silva of Brazil (57.39) was third.
