Botha targets Sonny Bill bout

Cape Town - South African heavyweight boxer, Francois 'White Buffalo' Botha, is targeting a fight with All Black rugby player and boxer Sonny Bill Williams.

According to the Rapport newspaper Botha is keen to teach Williams a lesson in the ring.

Botha's agent, Thinus Strydom from World Sport Promotions, confirmed they have been in contact with Williams's agent, Khoder Nasser, about a possible fight between the two.

Botha is so confident about beating Williams that he wouldn't mind doing it "somewhere during half-time of a rugby match" and with "one hand tied behind his back".

"Or even both (hands tied) because that chap is not in the same class as me," the former world heavyweight champion told Rapport in an exclusive interview.

The fight could take place in South Africa at the end of the year.

Williams has received some criticism of late for fighting below-par opponents. A few weeks ago he easily downed American Clarence Tillman in a first round knockout.

"He actually doesn't deserve to fight against me because he doesn't belong in the same ring as me.

"He might look good on the rugby field, but in the ring he is on his own, and there his 14 team-mates can't help him. Let's see what he does then."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
