Former boxing champion dies

Havana - Cuban boxer Douglas Rodriguez, a former world champion and Olympic medallist, has died at his home in Havana aged 61 after suffering a heart attack, the Cuban Sports Institute confirmed on Monday.

"The Cuban sports family have learned with the deepest regret the death of former world champion and Olympic boxing medallist Douglas Rodriguez," the Institute's online newspaper Jit said.

Rodriguez won bronze in the flyweight category at the 1972 Munich Olympics, and claimed the world title at the 1974 world boxing championships in Havana by beating Venezuela's Alfredo Perez.
