Cape Town - The South African men's waterpolo side have gone down to their third consecutive heavy defeat at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Budapest in Hungary.
After losing their opener 21-5 to Serbia, the current Olympic, world and European champions, SA were then beaten 18-2 by current world No 3-ranked side, Greece on Wednesday.
And on Friday, South African completed an unwanted rout, going down 16-4 to Spain.
Quarter scores were 3-2, 1-0, 6-1 and 6-1 in favour of the Spaniards.
The South African side will now battle for a final overall position in the 13th-16th bracket where they are likely to face the USA on Sunday at 12:00 SA time.
Meanwhile,
the SA women's waterpolo side fared little better in the pool,
with defeats to the USA (24-2), New Zealand (8-6) and Spain (17-3).
They too will contest the 13th-16th bracket where they will face Brazil on Saturday at 10:30 SA time.
